Donut Hole Closing for Generics in 2020

WASHINGTON, November 26, 2019 —Now that the “donut hole” gap in prescription coverage on Medicare Part D plans is closing in 2020, it may be surprising to learn that seniors may have to pay more money for the same medications due to the increased spending required to reach the catastrophic phase. USA Medical identifies the new stages of Medicare Part D coverage and their associated prescription costs for enrollees as follows:

  1. Annual Deductible — 100% (varies by plan)
  2. Initial Coverage — 25%
  3. Catastrophic — 5%(reach this phase when spend $6,350)

In the initial coverage stage, federally-funded discounts activate to help members pay for medications: 75% off brand name drugs and generics. However, the catastrophic phase is not entered until total costs reach $6,350, — compared to $5,100 in 2019. USA Medical offers assistance to seniors by providing discounts on medications prescribed through its customized prescription savings programs in all 50 states including: Texas Prescription Assistance Program, Florida Prescription Assistance Program and California Prescription Assistance Program.

USA Medical Co-Founder and President Jordan Sessler says, “We know that paying for prescriptions is stressful for seniors because they are often on a tight budget. That’s why we offer our free prescription discount card to help reduce medication costs. No prescriptions are excluded from possible savings up to 75%, brand name or generic.”

The pre-activated card is accepted at more than 60,000 pharmacies across the country—local, regional and national chains such as CVS, Costco, Target, Rite Aid, Walmart and Walgreens. Eligible Rx’s include medications prescribed for illnesses common to seniors such as heart disease and diabetes, as well as thousands of other popular prescriptions.
